SCULPTURE / RELIEF
Zurab Sheqelashvili is a Georgian contemporary artist whose artistic career was developing in Germany.
Sculptures presented at the exhibition were created over ten years and are characterized as psychological portraits: Hybrid creatures, that are presented at the exhibition as busts depict portraits of a person or a group of people when the inner self of a person is strongly reflected on the outer self with its general characteristics. Zurab Shekelashvili’s sculptures are the result of such metaphorical observation and research, where anthropomorphic images symbolically express human weakness and imperfection.
The works made in relief were made during the last two years and show the duality of a person fighting with himself, who strives for perfection. It can be understood as a manifestation of rebirth through transformations.
